Things to do in Niagara on the Lake

Thank you for joining us for our wedding celebrations! Some of you may be choosing to make a weekend out of it, and we think that’s a great idea. The Niagara region of Ontario has some of the most beautiful attractions to experience.

Here are our top 10 things to do in Niagara:

1. Wine tours! This is the best thing to do when you’re in Niagara. Niagara VQA wines are some of the world’s greatest, and whether you choose to hop on a bus tour, or join a bike tour, there are plenty of stops to see. In the Niagara on the Lake region, we suggest; Ravine Winery, Peller Estates, Trius Winery (wait until you see the rose room), Two Sisters Winery, and Small Talk. (of course, there’s many more options and we suggest you do some google research based on your favourite types of wine).

2. Bike Tours – as we mentioned above, you can take a bike winery tour; but if you want to have a bike tour without the wine, they also offer that in Niagara on the Lake. Zoom Leisure is a great company with regular and E-bike rentals. We suggest riding the Recreational Trail along the parkway. Constructed in 1986, the Niagara River Recreation Trail is a paved path for non-motorized traffic stretching some 53 kilometers (32 miles) along the Canadian side of the Niagara River

3. Brewery Tastings – If you’re not as keen on wine, we suggest trying out some great breweries in the Niagara region. Oast House, Silversmith, Counterpart Brewery, The Exchange Brewery are all wonderful options.

4. Niagara Falls – for those who haven’t had a chance to visit the Niagara Region, hitting up Niagara Falls and Clifton Hill is a definite bucket list item. There are plenty of fun midway games, restaurants, the Skywheel and Maid of the Mist. You can even zipline down to the falls! Each night, a fireworks display is produced over the falls – it’s a must see.

5. Old Towne Niagara on the Lake – visit the most darling shops and restaurants on Queen Street in downtown Niagara on the Lake. Visit the iconic clocktower, have high tea at Prince of Wales or enjoy an ice cream cone at Cows.

6. Shaw Festival – if you enjoy seeing a show; Niagara-on-the-Lake's George Bernard Shaw Festival attracts thousands of visitors each summer. Performances of plays by Shaw, his contemporaries, and Canadian playwrights run from April to October.

7. Shopping – everyone likes to shop when they are on vacation. If you have time, the shops along the Niagara on the Lake downtown strip are great.

8. Spa Experiences – Vintage Hotels, 124 on Queen and White Oaks Resorts offer relaxing spa services that are worthy of checking out. After travel, you deserve a Mani/Pedi; or after a long night of celebrating with us – you might need a massage or a dip in the hot springs.

9. Golf – Niagara on the Lake Golf

Course is the oldest in North America, dating back to 1875! Walking along this 9 hole course, you will be treated to some of the most scenic views in the area. The entire course runs along the shores of Lake Ontario and many holes are elevated just above the shores edge. Finish it up with lunch in the club house.

10. For the historian – if you enjoy learning about the history of the area you are visiting, why not check out the Laura Secord Homestead, Queenston Heights Park, Fort George National Site and the Mackenzie Printery.
